213 t of DYWIDAG Post-Tensioning System for bridges in Muscat

Alleviation of traffic congestion in Al-Khuwair and Al-Ghubrah areas, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman

The project is located in the areas of Al-Khuwair and Al-Ghubrah in the center of Muscat, the capital of Oman. The main highway in Muscat namely Sultan Qaboos Street runs in the east-west direction, therefore, all traffic going from south to north or vice versa has to exit through roundabouts that add to traffic congestion, especially at peak hours. The main objective was to alleviate traffic congestion in the roundabouts by building bridges. This project includes the following prestressed bridges:

• Bridge BL 1 - Al--Khuwair: total length of 192 m and width of 8.8 m. 140 m of the box girder superstructure is constructed of cast in-situ; the balance of 52 m with precast beams.
• Bridge BL 2 - Al--Khuwair: total length of 120 m and width of 8.8 m. 105 m of the box girder superstructure is constructed of cast in-situ; the balance of 15 m with precast beams.
• Bridge BR1K - Al--Khuwair: total length of 170 m and width of 21 m. The superstructure is constructed with 96 nos. precast beams.
• Bridge BR1G - Al--Ghubrah: total length of 62 m and width of 13.5 m. The superstructure is constructed with 45 nos. precast beams.
